What is going on Dodgers? You have one of the highness paid teams and still play like you need better players.

I know it’s only June, and there is still a lot of baseball left before the season ends, but is it hard to stay upbeat being a Dodger fan these days. Just another year of so-so playing, hitting and pitching for the Dodgers and another year of so-so managing for the Dodgers.

We complained about the lack luster dodgers under the management of Don Mattingly, so he gets replaced by Dave Roberts. However, so far this season, there really hasn’t been all that much improvement.

This year’s performance is not up to what we expect from our beloved Dodgers and there are several problems that are so apparent even to us couch coaches. Unfortunately some of these problems were the reasons the dodgers did not make it past the first round of the playoffs last year.

The first problem is the lack of ability to string their hits together, doesn’t matter if the teams gets a man or even a couple of men on base if they are left on there time and time again.

Second problem would be the lack of homeruns, so far this season the heavy bats have been fairly quiet. Expect for a copy of the rookies, I think, at last court it was around 50 HR for the season.

But the dodgers greatest problem is their lack of good relief pitchers, time after time, game after game the starting pitcher turn the ball over to the relief pitchers just to see them cough up the lead and lose the game.

It is so frustrating to watch the Dodgers finally take the lead, and then Pedro Baez, or, Chris Hatcher or even JP Howell come in and blow it. Not just once or twice, but again time after time. Baez’s ERA is 4,29, Hatcher’s ERA is 5.75 and Howell’s is 5.51. Way too high ERA’a to hold down the fort until Jansen can close out the game. Add to that Jansen, who is one of the best closures out there, blows two saves in a row.

But what about Dave Roberts himself? Is he doing what is necessary to bring the team together? Some say yes, some say no. Roberts didn’t help his cause much either when during the Dodger game against the NY Mets he pulls out Kershaw in the 8th inning with the Dodgers winning. Everyone expected Roberts to bring in Jansen to finish the 8th inning and then go on to pitch the 9th.

However, instead of doing what everyone thinks is the logically choice, Dave Roberts brings in Adam Liberatore. Unfortunately Liberatore proved to be the wrong choice and he coughed up the go ahead run to give the NY Mets the lead going into the 9th inning. Every Dodger fan watching the game on TV could see the angry and disbelief on Clayton Kershaw face.

The only thing that kept this from totally getting out of control was the fact that the Dodgers pulled out a miracle and took back the lead in the top of the 9th, giving Jansen the opportunity to do what he does best and get the save in the bottom of the 9th.

As the Dodgers closed out May, the Dodgers were just a tad over 500. The Dodgers rivals, the Giants are in first place, and as to the Dodgers, well they are in a distant second, 5 games out of first.

The Dodgers were even swept by the Florida Marlins who are also just a tad over 500. The Dodgers also lost three out of four games to the LA Angels, which are around 440.

The Dodgers need more than Kershaw, it’s unfair to expect him to carry the team to the playoffs. The Dodgers fans need to see more. It’s unfair to expect them to go to game after game, pay what they pay just to see a so-so game instead of a good Dodger game.
