Sports Blog – May 2016

Let talk sports for May

Sports May 2016, as I tried gathering my thoughts as to what my main topic would be for this month’s sports blog, I did a little remising of my past blogs for the month of May. I did one a few years ago on Little league baseball, or how about the one on the fall of the LA Lakers, which to this day they have not yet recovered and the rise of the LA Clippers. The Clippers have made the playoffs again this year and are heavily favored.

I could write a whole blog on the many upsets that occurred during this year’s ‘March Madness. What a tournament that was. My bracket was so destroyed by the 3rd round, I just had to give up and throw in the towel, as did many of my friends and family members. I even had the nerve to pick Kansas winning the whole thing, like I said, ‘bracket destroyed’!

I was even leaning toward doing this month’s blog on Baseball and my two favorite teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but already did that last month. Besides we are only a month into the season, plenty of months leave to tackle that topic again.

However, I do have a major beef, with all the money the Dodgers have spend on pitchers and the Dodgers have a ton of them to choose from on their roster, why do they keep using the same ineffective relieve pitchers, day after day after day! I know it’s still early in the season and maybe they are hoping for some improvement, but most fans, including me would rather lose a game with a new relieve pitcher than keep losing with the same ones over and over again!

So, I guess I am left with either the NBA playoffs or the NHL playoffs, or better yet Kobe Bryant.

It’s hard to believe that Kobe will not be back next year and it’s unfortunate that the LA Lakers are still ‘bottom feeding’ in the rankings for 2016. I think this makes either the third or fourth year in a row that they didn’t even make the playoffs, let alone come in dead last.

Kobe Bryant Retires Tonight

And even through this was Kobe last year as a Laker, the Lakers did not make the playoffs, however, he did manage to go out in style, ‘Kobe style’ that is. His last game as a LA Laker, he scored a record high of 60 points. That in its self was totally amazing!

There was also Adam LaRoche, of the White Sox, who decided to throw in the towel when he could no longer bring his son to work and hang out in the dugout.

However, the retirement of Vin Scully is the one that personally I will feel the most. I have been a Dodger fan for many, many years and one of the reasons I am a true blue fan is the voice of the Dodgers, Scully! It didn’t seem to hurt as much somehow that the Dodgers lost, he always had a way of letting the fans know that it was only a game, and there is always another game right around the corner.

I also loved the baseball stories and yet never missed a pitch or a hit. Besides all the baseball stories came the personal ones, not about him, but about our players, making them just a tad more human to us, the fans. He had a way of making it look and sound so easy and yet personally I don’t think there is anyone that does it better.

I am looking forward to continue watching Dodger baseball as the season continues, even though I am definitely not looking forward to this being Scully’s last season as the one and only Dodger announcer.

One last comment regarding Vin Scully, there is a push for Vin to one of the baseball announcers for the 2016 World Series game. This would be a great way for Scully to end his career. Hopefully he will get enough support from MLB to make this happen.
