College Bowl Games

To Many College Bowl Games?

As I started writing this blog I realize that there were still a few college bowl games left.

However, this year there was over forty college bowl games, that was a bit much, don’t you think?

To Many College Bowl games Yes or NO

To Many College Bowl games Yes or NO

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/bowl/schedule

I tried to have the same amount of zest for each game, but it was hard. UCLA looked as bad in their bowl game as they did when they played USC. Air Force didn’t look much better playing CA-Berkeley. Or how bad was it watching Boise State play Northern Illinois at the Poinsettia Bowl on December 23, the final score was Boise 55 and Northern Illinois 17.

There were also several games that were very good and even a couple that were upsets, such as Houston upsets Florida State 38-24 in Peach Bowl.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/houston-upsets-florida-state-38-24-in-peach-bowl-212942310.htm
Or how about the Alamo Bowl , with TCU, Horned Frogs playing the Oregon Ducks, it was like watch two different games with the first half being won by the Ducks and the second half being won by the Horned Toads.

Many sports announcers have made comments about how boring this year’s bowl games were.
They blamed it on the pairing up of the teams, the amount of bowl games and the TV schedule of several games being played on New Year’s Eve.

It has been said that only Alabama-Clemson can save college football’s worst bowl season.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/only-alabama-clemson-can-save-college-football-s-worst-bowl-season-073817921.html

I understand the need for college football bowl games; I know it’s all about the money that they generate for the schools. Most of it coming from TV sponsors, but how many of these forty plus bowl games were actually worth watching? I tried to watch as many of these games as possible, but several actually put me to sleep.

The money that these bowl games generate go toward school scholarships and help support many of the other sport activities that college offer, but don’t bring in the necessary money to support them.
There is another reason that the college bowl games are important, at least to several of the senior football players, and that is to give them one last chance to show off their football skills to the NFL, thus improving their chances of entering the NFL draft.

One of the first of these senior players is the CA-Berkeley Quarterback, Jared Goff announcing he’s entering the NFL draft. Believe me, by the end of January or February the list will be long.
Unfortunately for most college football players, the majority of them will never play pro-ball.

Maybe the forces, that not only rank the college football teams during the year, but also select
what teams goes to what bowls can figure out a way to do a better job at lining up what school plays what school. This past bowl season was definitely not the best college has to offer and hopefully the selection committee will learn from their past mistakes.

Sports blog for December 2015

There Still Sports In December

Happy Holidays

There still Sports

There still Sports in December

For a sports fan, besides all the regular Christmas and family items, buying the tree, do the decoration, buy the gifts, etc, etc. (and the list does seems endless) there is still sports!

December can be a hectic time of the year in the ‘Sports World’ for any sports fan. Starting with the baseball trades going on and this time of the year there has been many surprises and a whole lot of money once again being spent by the Dodgers.

All this and more to come, just to help prepare themselves for next season and a chance to make it to the World Series. Hopefully it will be money better spend than the last couple of years. Dodgers take the Division Title, but get bump out of the playoffs the very first round, this year it was the New York Mets that sent the Dodgers packing.

Then there is College Basketball and the attempts by each college team to make it to “March Madness’. Sports fans are starting to take an interest in the top schools, taking a peek at who will be in and who will be out. All this to help them get an edge in preparing their ‘Brackets’. As of today’s date, UCLA and USC are holding their own and hopefully they will both make it past the first couple of rounds.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/standings

Of course, if you a sports fan? There are also the college bowl games, which started December 19 and will end with the BCS Championship game on January 11. There is always the January 1, 2016 famous Rose Bowl game following the Rose Parade, a great way to just relax and rest up after celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends and/or family.

Of course, if you are not a fan of basketball or even football, there is also hockey! We have two teams, the Los Angeles, Kings and the Anaheim Ducks.

Before the season started, both teams looked like they had the players that would and could take them to the playoffs, unfortunately that has not come to past for the Ducks.

Teams that appeared not to be able to lose at the start have lost, take the Miami Dolphins, the New Orleans Saints or even Green Bay. Denver Broncos are also struggling with Peyton Manning out for the season, as well as the Baltimore Ravens, again with their Quarterback, Flacco also out for the season.

Then you have the winners, the usual, New England Patriots, but how about them, Bengals or the Carolina Panthers? Then there are the spoilers, no chance of getting into the playoffs, but can still do a lot of damage to their rivals by knocking them out of the playoffs. Fun, Fun, FUN!

Bad Calls In Sports

Oops another mistake by the Umps!
bad calls
With the upgrades in the way we watch sports on TV, and the use of re-play in almost every sport, it’s definitely had its impact on how the games are being officiated especially in football.

http://operations.nfl.com/the-officials/officiating-development/

No longer are we watching sports are the regular old-fashion TV, but most sport fans are now watching the games on Cable TV or streaming it through their Ipad, phone or computer.

We, as fans, get to see just about everything that happens on the field. Sometimes over and over again as the station repeats the play at various anglers along with comments from the sports ‘experts’.

This has really put a lot more pressure on the officials. Not only do they have to deal with the
team players and coaches at the time of the call, but with the fallout from a bad call as early as that evening when ESPN or Sports Center brings it to everyone attention. Now add to that the ‘Social Media’, which everyone on Facebook has an opinion.

However, even with this, officials do still get it wrong, and sometimes, it is very wrong!

Error in time run-off on the clock and not noticed or corrected by officials in the October game between Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks
http://www.onenewspage.com/n/Sports/7559xuidc/Sports-digest-NFL-admits-officiating-error.htm

NFL admits another error in Lions-Cowboys game
http://www.9news.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/01/06/lions-cowboys-game-officiating-errors/21357789/

In college football, the ACC has taking action against the team of officials who messed up and due to their errors, the wrong team won. You say, what’s the big deal, however, again, this is college football where one loss can prevent you from going to the payoffs. Not going to the playoff means a huge loss of revenue for the college.

The ACC (The Atlantic Coast Conference) has actually suspended the team of officials
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14026475/acc-suspends-field-officials-replay-officials-wild-miami-duke-finish

With College football actually doing something to try and clear of the mess of bad officiating, the NFL needs to follow suit. Just like the football players and their coaches are held accountably for their actions, so do the officials. Some errors appear to be so blanted that you have to wonder what the officials were thinking! Was there favoritism? Did the official actually lean heavier on a certain team verses another team? A lot of fans think so, why do certain team’s quarterbacks get sacks so much more than other quarterback from other teams.
Sack a favorite quarterback and get a penalty for late hit, sack another quarterback and it fine.

It helps the men to tab sildenafil get longer erection throughout the love making session. If the improper position or any error viagra 25 mg http://secretworldchronicle.com/tag/overwatch/ condition is occurs in this neural system, it may bring some of very serious ailments. Inhibition of PDE5 allows the body to release viagra australia price find out description nitric oxide, a substance that boosts blood flow to the penile organ does not receive enough amount of blood to cause an erection, which is why getting an erection becomes difficult. How about the late whistle or an early whistle? Either one of these can affect the outcome of a game. A late whistle can also result in an injury to the quarterback, a receiver or any other player involved in the play.

Have to ask the question as to when will the NFL follow in the path of college football and make the officials actually responsibly for their actions. Perhaps a suspension of a game or two or even a monetary penalty would help the official take their jobs a little more serious.

Bad Calls In Sports

This is a very touchy subject and not just in football. Many baseball fans and sports announcer have discovered that certain officials when referring certain games against certain pitcher have either a very large strike zone or a very little strike zone.

Everyone by now has heard the story of a retired baseball player hiring Private Investigators to
get an advantage from Officials, if not click on the link, you will enjoy the read.

Lenny Dykstra admits to hiring private investigators to spy on umps
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25356639/lenny-dykstra-admits-to-hiring-private-investigators-to-spy-on-umps

This has got to be a real eye opener for the MLB. Even if Lenny’s story proves to be false, you still have to wonder ‘what if it’s true?’ How does the Major League Baseball fix the problem for the future? How does any sports venue fix the problem?

Unfortunately, when there is so much money to be had in sports now-a- days, cheating is to be expected. In sports the old say goes, ‘It isn’t cheating if you don’t get caught?’

Start of NFL Football 2015

Are We Ready for Some Football, NFL Football 2015

Well even if you aren’t, too bad, it’s here already! Pre-season started last month with a few teams already showing signs of weakness in their lineup.

Cheating is Cheating

Cheating is Cheating

The first official game of the 2015 season is September 10, with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the New England Patriots (without Tom Brady for now)

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2015/REG1

And just like every other season some of the weaknesses can be blamed on a few ‘missing links’.

These so called ‘missing links’ are due to injuries that occurred during practices, some due to bad pre-season trades, or too many rookies that haven’t quite managed the move from College to Pro. However, there are several players that are ‘missing in action’ due to suspensions for drug use or spousal abused or something of that nature.

For a list of NFL Fines & Suspensions, use this link.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/fines-suspensions/ or http://www.4for4.com/fantasy-football/2015-nfl-suspended-players

Tom Brady is also on suspension, due to his apparent role he played in ‘deflate gate’.

The NFL suspends Tom Brady for 4 games

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12867594/punishments-handed-tom-brady-new-england-patriots-deflategate

Public Opinion regarding The Patriots and deflate gate

However, even without the ‘deflate gate’ there are a whole lot of football fans that are convinced that this is just another case of the New England Patriots cheating to get a win, and it isn’t the first time that they have been caught !

Do you remember when the New England Patriots were caught using electronic means to steal signals and otherwise violate league rules back in 2007?

To check out a list of the Patriots cheating scandals, go to
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-england-patriots-scandals-from-spies-to-snowplows/
or http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/new_england_patriots_cheating_scandal/

Of course with all the players that will have to serve out their suspensions, comes the impact that this will have on Fantasy Football. Do you or not keep a player that will not be able to play for the first game or so?

There is also the players that have been released from their contracts due to being arrested for DUI’s, Violence, spousal abuse.

The latest to fall is Aldon Smith who was released by the San Francisco 49ers on August 7 for driving under the influence, committing a hit and run and vandalism. This was the third time Smith was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving since being drafted by the 49ers in 2011.

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/8/7/9116037/aldon-smith-released-49ers-arrest

If Smith was going to be one of your Fantasy Football selections, you need to go back to the drawing board, who do you replace him with. What if you already had your team picked and ready to go with Tom Brady as your starting Quarterback, do you keep him and use another pick to get a back-up for Tom. But who? Who will be available?

Add to that all the injuries that have occurred before the season even started and you can really see how much all this has already affected the game. With RG3 out once yet again with another concussion and even though he is already back in practice, you have to wonder, why was he even out there setting himself up to be injuried again.

Do team owner and mangers continue in this old-fashion method of preparing for the start of the season, or do they start looking for alternatives.

This is one solution to meaningless NFL preseason games with meaningful injuries: Dual practices maybe?

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/solution-to-meaningless-nfl-preseason-games-with-meaningful-injuries–dual-practices-021028059.html;_ylt=A0SO8y6pEN1Vw6UAW7hXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzcDJjOXA2BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDVklQNjE1XzEEc2VjA3Ny

It’s sad when the gossip surrounding the game of football gets more press time than the game itself. But that is exactly what has happened over the last couple of years. Remember Aaron Hernandez? He is still making the headlines.

http://www.tmz.com/category/aaron-hernandez-trial/

Or Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens, who after knocking out his fiancée in an elevator was fired by the Ravens. Even though there are several teams including the Houston Texans are in need of a running back as of now he is still a free agent.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-houston-texans-arian-foster-ray-rice-20150805-story.html

So much press time given to showing the negative aspects of players personal lives that the NFL has had to step in and try to offset it with more time and assistance given to players that need help. Adding to that is also longer suspensions for drug and spousal abuse giving to players along with termination for players that are arrested.

Unfortunately players suspensions and terminations and injuries, don’t just affect them and their family, it also affect their teams, the other players on the team, the team owners and their loyal fans., especially the fantasy football players.

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/signup?mktg=fantfootball-sem-ybn-gen

Hopefully we will start to see the players will see that the end result doesn’t justify the abuse and they will get help!

Hopefully Team owners and managers will see the writing on the wall and get help to the players that really need it and start taking better care of protecting the players on the field.

When that happens, we as fans, will see more press time given to the actually game instead of what we are getting now. We all love to see the hard hits, the sacks, the blocked kicks, but not to the point where the players are either injured during the game, or take their angry out on those closest to them after the game.

Baseball 2015 All Star Game

Baseball 2015 All Star Game. The 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

Baseball The All America Game

Baseball The All America Game

The 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 86th edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
The game was hosted by the Cincinnati Reds and played at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, July 14 and of course it was televised nationally on Fox.

The American League All-Stars defeated the National League All-Stars by a score of 6–3. It seems that the National League struggled yet again.

The host city was announced back on January 21, 2013, by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. This will be the first time the city of Cincinnati has hosted the All-Star Game since the 1988 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was played at Riverfront Stadium.

There was a huge amount of hype on various TV sports channels as well as the local TV news stations. There were lots of rumors and gossip.

One of the rumors was that after being banned for LIFE for gambling, Pete Rose was going to show up. Pete Rose played 15 seasons for the Reds and was a part of the Big Red Machine, and was banned permanently from the MLB for baseball betting.

Bud Selig announced that Rose would not be prohibited from participating in this years All-Star Game ceremonies. And he did!

Pete Rose came home for the All-Star Game and made a rare on-field appearance in the place where he’s still treated like a king.

http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2015/07/15/pete-rose-mlb-all-star-game.html

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/pete-rose-allowed-to-participate-in-all-star-game–mlb-commish-says-184711639.html

Another rumor until back in May 12, 2015 the Reds announced that Todd Frazier would serve as the 2015 All-Star Game spokesperson However, the biggest rumor, then gossip, then fact was the balloting problems that showed up and took center stage.

Balloting for the 2015 All-Star Game starters began online April 23 and ended on July 2. The top vote-getters at each position (including the designated hitter for the American League) and the top three among the outfielders, were named the starters for their respective leagues. The results were then announced on July 5.

A record 620 million votes were cast, surpassing the record of 391 million votes in 2012. Josh Donaldson was the leading vote-getter with 14,090,188 votes, breaking the record that Josh Hamilton set in 2012 with 11,073,744 votes. Bryce Harper set a new NL record for votes this year with 13,864,950 votes.

Which all sounds great, but it didn’t start out that way, after a few weeks it became apparent that ‘online’ voting system might have a few flaws in the system and due to these several flaws, for a few weeks the Kansas City Royals had 5 or more players playing in the All Star Game.

This cause a whole lot of uproar and a whole lot of sports ‘people’ wanting and demanding changes!

http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2015/6/19/8811347/mlb-all-star-game-royals-votes

There were so many people insisting on a recount and demanding immediate changes that the MLB Commissioner had to step in. The Immediate outcome was the chances of seeing Omar Infante suit up for the American League All-Star squad were getting slimmer by the hour when just a few days from the All-Star game, MLB Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman revealed in an interview with Jeff Passan that between 60-65 million ballots have been disqualified for the upcoming All-Star Game.

The disqualified votes come after Royals fans (and at least some National League fans looking to create chaos) came out in even greater unison behind 2014 World Series runner-up after initial results gave those players a sizable lead, putting a total of eight Kansas City players in line to start for the AL.

While 60 million votes sounds like a sizable chunk of the 300-some million ballots that have been collected so far, Bowman insisted that the 20 percent cut was on par with results from previous seasons.

And following a tough day’s massage therapy it’s good to learn that there’s a method to show your partner how much you care about them. sildenafil price in india What are some of the changes that are being looked into you ask, well the front-runner being less dependence on ‘online’ voting by the public. As of now a single online voter has a total 35 times to vote for either a certain player or players.

In the past, long before the internet, votes were made at the games by the people actually attending the game. The more games you went to, the more chances you had to vote.

Now in comes the internet and with it the opportunity to vote online, thus opening the process to being manipulated by a small group of computer experts, voting over and over again using different email addresses or even going as far as using different IPO addresses.

Lots of true baseball fans were concerned that once again, the true spirit of baseball had once again been trampled on.

These ‘sport enthusiasts’ would like for baseball to take a few steps backwards, with less dependence on the votes placed on the internet and more votes coming in from the fans that actually attended the game.

Also more weight giving the other baseball players votes, along with the baseball owners, and managers votes.

Another change being pushed is to remove the ‘win at all cost’ incentive placed on the game, with the winner of the All Star Game being given the ‘Home Field Advantage’ at the next World Series game.

This Year the American League beat the National League 6-3 to secure home-field advantage in the World Series for the third straight time and 10th in 13 years.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/tuesdays-sports-brief-064722110–mlb.html;_ylt=AwrXgiLmjLVVomkAxCFNbK5_;_ylu=X3oDMTByNDN1aDMxBGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwM1BHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw–

Overall, good did triumph over evil and the game was played with a good mix of players from a wide variety of team both for the American League and the National League.

Now that the 2015 All Star Game is one for the books, and baseball is already working on the completing the second half of the season, there were some winners and some losers, such as; Pete Rose – winner, Mike Trout- winner and Kershaw-loser and Bruce Harper- loser.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2522799-mlb-all-star-game-2015-winners-and-losers-from-tuesday-night

MLB will reportedly change All-Star Game hosting criteria, this announcement came after the MLB had announced that San Diego will host the 2016 All Star Game.

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/108620194/mlb-will-reportedly-change-all-star-game-hosting-criteria

No matter if you are a fan of the ‘All-Star’ games or not, almost every sport has one. Baseball is just one of the few that have it half-way through the season.

The ‘All Star Break’ does gives everyone a much needed break, it gives time for the players to heal a little, rest a little and for GM along with the managers to get ready for the trade deadlines that occur right after the all-star break.

The future of the All Star game, just like everything else on TV, it will come down to not what’s best for baseball, but what is best for the ratings.

The Pressure On, For Charger New Stadium

San Diego is about to get hosed

Hi Sport fans, especially those of us who follow the ups and downs of the National Football League.

This was a sports blog that was posted by a Jason Notte a few months ago and it is worth repeating.arn twisting the city of San Diego

It concerns not only the loyal fans of the San Diego Chargers, but what can happen when
The NFL is allowed to pressure Cities to doing what they are ‘asked’ to do by the NFL.

Here’s what a waste of $1.1 billion looks like.

San Diego, please don’t be as dumb as this Chargers stadium plan is making you look.

Your tax-free stadium is going to end up with ‘public money’ one way or another.

Years of griping about Qualcomm Stadium from the Spanos family of owners and some screw-turning from the NFL, which refused to award San Diego another Super Bowl until the Chargers updated their 1967-vintage facility, had previously yielded only chuckles from San Diego. A string of mayors and city councils refused to pay a dime of public money toward a new facility while a family with 10 figures of net worth held its hand out.

However, the Spanos clan did the unthinkable and partnered with the Chargers’ AFC West rival Oakland Raiders on a proposed $1.7 billion facility in Carson, Calif., that was approved in April. That’s when San Diego began losing its nerve. Rushed by St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s own Los Angeles stadium proposal and pressured by NFL representatives to get an offer on the table, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and his stadium planning committee announced plans for a $1.1 billion stadium that “won’t raise taxes.” San Diego, please read the fine print on this plan.

While the Los Angeles Times pulled out the pom-poms and swiped some choreography from Bring It On for its enthusiastic A-N-N-O-U-N-C-E-M-E-N-T of the new stadium plan, it glossed over the fact that the Chargers and the NFL would be responsible for only $500 million of those costs. Oh, and the Chargers still feel they’re “being asked to contribute far more than other NFL teams have been required to pay when their stadiums were built.” Meanwhile, the project requires $173 million in bonds, $121 million from San Diego, $121 million from San Diego County, an estimated $100 million from ticket surcharges and seat licenses, and the city’s $225 million sale of the Qualcomm Stadium site to a developer.

Though the proposed plan asks the Chargers to pay $1 million per game in rent ($8 million per year, more during playoff years), the “won’t raise taxes” portion of this deal is very much in doubt. Just ask the good people of Indianapolis and Indiana. They forked over 86% of the $720 million cost of the Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium before it opened in 2008 and borrowed money from Goldman Sachs GS, +1.39% for a bond sale to cover the cost and minimize the tax burden. However, as Bloomberg discovered, the group in charge of those bonds just paid Goldman $71 million to get out of that bond deal after an interest-rate-swap scheme went sour. As a result, hotel, restaurant and rental-car taxes that were already being used to pay stadium costs had to be increased.

NFL stadiums have soaked up an average of $250 million in public funding apiece since the mid-1990s. Harvard University urban planning professor Judith Grant Long notes that municipal or state land, lost property taxes from that land, infrastructure and annual maintenance all tack on about 25% to the cost of an NFL facility. The least the NFL can do is offer the public a say in that spending, but the NFL has rammed Los Angeles stadiums through local government without a vote and is squeezing politicians in St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego to avoid a public vote on tax money for stadiums, citing expediency.

There is no way San Diego should let this go down without a vote. Faulconer has promised one for November and a two-thirds vote would be required for approval. The NFL, knowing it doesn’t have the votes for this and that few taxpayers would agree to such a lopsided deal, sent Executive VP Eric Grubman to San Diego to declare the vote “risky.”

Take that risk. It’s your tax money and your city, San Diego. While folks in Seattle know that a public vote doesn’t always mean public money won’t go into a stadium, they also know it’s about the best tool the taxpayer has to negotiate terms. If the fourth estate would rather play cheerleader than look out for your interest, look out for you own and force a vote. If the NFL and the Spanos clan don’t like it, they know where I-5 is. Good luck getting to L.A. before the Rams and Raiders, though.

Supporting Our Local Southern California Sports!

Apparently there doesn’t seem to be enough room in dodger fan’s hearts for both the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers. I don’t know why either.

I have been a Laker fan since before Magic Johnson played for them instead of being a part owner of the Dodgers. For the most part, the Lakers have been a great team winning the NB Championships year after year. However, for the last couple of years there have been problems with the chemistry between players, the age of several of the players and the injuries. And although I know that it is just a matter of time that the LA Lakers will once again become the first class team that they once were.

http://www.nba.com/lakers/

The fact that I am a LA Laker fan doesn’t stop me from cheering for the Clippers, after all, they are a LA Team. I am still a Laker fan, but I am also a fan of LA Sports.

Any time a team from Southern California makes it to the playoff games, as a whole, we are better for it. Shouldn’t matter what LA Basketball team makes it to the playoffs, as long as someone does, I would prefer the Lakers, but will root for the Clippers. Why? Simple, it adds money to our local economy and it’s another notch in the belt for LA Sports.

Downtown business, whether it is hotels, motels, restaurants, or local stores, they all benefit. It also gives us, the Los Angeles Fan base, a reason to gloat.

You hear it all the time about how Southern CA and in peculiar, Los Angeles, is not into sports, how we don’t support our local teams. You especially hear this from the NFL, they love to use that as an excuse as to why LA doesn’t have or need a Football team.

The politics behind why Los Angeles doesn’t have an NFL team

The only time a Laker Fan should be rooting against the Clippers is when the Clipper are playing the Lakers or they are both tied for first place and the Lakers need a win.

www.NBA/clippers

It is sort of the same thing that happens between the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I am a true Dodger fan, in other words, I ‘bleed blue’. However, I will root for the Angels, except when they are actually playing the Dodgers. I will especially root for the Angels when they are playing a ‘National Team’ and from the same division as the Dodgers. Example is when the Angels play the D-backs or the Giants.

How about all the LA King fans that openly support the Anaheim Ducks when the Ducks instead of the LA Kings make the playoffs, as in this year! Would they prefer to be rooting for the LA Kings, YES! But, still better to have a Southern CA team in the playoffs than none! Go Ducks! Again this is good for Southern CA
Sports, there are a whole lot of hockey fans up north and on the east coast that didn’t even know we had a hockey team, much less two and that the LA Kings won the Stanley Cup last year and the Ducks just missed the Stanley Cup Finals by a single loss.

What it comes down to is simple, as a Southern CA sports fan, we need to be there for all our teams regardless of what our favorites are.

Sports April 2015, a month to remember

April was a fun month for us sports fans! No matter what sports who follow, there was something going on.

April was the beginning of professional baseball, whether you are a Dodger fan or an Angel fan, it was great just to have the season start again.

www.Dodger.com

www.LAAngels.com

However there is still a dark side to the LA Dodgers; close to 70% of the market still is unable to see the Dodgers play and Vin Scully the game due to ‘Time Warner’ not making the games available outside their own customers.

Dodgers fans to remain in the dark as TV deal reportedly falls through!

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/dodgers-fans-to-remain-in-the-dark-as-tv-deal-reportedly-falls-through-143820583.html

No matter who or who is not watching them, the Dodgers are off to a good start. In my opinion, several of their new players, such as Pederson, Anderson and Rollins are a real fine. However I do think that the Dodgers still need a great closer, especially with Jansen still out at least until mid-month. It’s not bad and it could be worse!

April was also the end of a very exciting men’s college basketball ‘March Madness’. We saw the end of Kentucky run for a perfect season with their loss to Wisconsin. Then it was on to watching Wisconsin loss to Duke in the finals. It was indeed a thriller!

Duke Beats Wisconsin 68-63 To Win 2015 NCAA Tournament

Just as we got use to the fact that college basketball was done for the season, on comes the NBA playoffs. It was a bit concerning that once again the LA Lakers did not make the playoffs, however, the LA Clippers did. Go Clippers!

Lakers eliminated from playoffs, team’s earliest elimination in 54 years.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/11/lakers-eliminated-from-playoffs-teams-earliest-elimination-in-54-years/

You also have the NHL playoffs being played during the month of April. The Anaheim Ducks are in the playoffs, but sadly the LA Kings managed to miss the playoffs.

It was quite a shock for LA King fans when after wining last year’s Stanley Cup, they failed to even make the playoff this year. However, that means that us, the fans that were rooting for the Kings, will now turn our support to the Anaheim Ducks, after all, it would still be a Southern CA team winning the Stanley Cup!

It is a good thing is that Southern California has at least two teams for most sports, your team does make the playoffs, chances are the other team might. Such as, Lakers out, Clippers in, Kings out, Ducks in, Dodgers in, Angels out, (or the other way around, to early to tell yet).

Even USC or UCLA fans will route for the other team if their team doesn’t make it to the playoffs. Still beats an ‘outsider winning’. It’s always better for Southern CA when one of our local teams win!

Too bad the same can’t be said for professional football, LA still has no team! But that’s a whole other topic for another blog.

April is also important for the NFL. Most teams are in the hunt for new players, trading old ones, gaining new ones, even restructuring old contracts and make new ones.

There has even been a few surprises, such as the Washington Redskins deciding to pull the ‘franchise tag’ for RG3, when everyone else thought the owner would use the opportunity to trade him.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/why-in-the-world-would-redskins-pick-up-rgiii-s-option–let-s-explore-151647567.html

The NFL also releases it’s fall schedule in April. LA Fans can start marking their calendars, booking their air flights, hotels and whatever they will need in order to attend either San Diego Charger or the Oakland Raiders games.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/2015-nfl-schedule–league-releases-the-full-regular-season-slate-000758569.html

This year, some team are really going outside the box in their attempt to gain depth in their rotations, even to the extent of the Eagles hiring Tim Tebow as their 4th Quarterback, A bit of an overkill, having 4 QB, but who knows. . .

April also brings us freaking weather in which baseball players have to deal with, we are all use to a bit of rain, in which we deal with rain delays, but how often do we see snow falling dealing a National Baseball Game, well it happened.

All in All, April was a great month for being a Sports Fan, can’t wait to see what May will bring!

Dodger Fan Ask For Help

Dear Dodger Fans

I received this blog from another Dodger Fan and I passing it on!

This ‘Open Letter to Vin Scully’ by Jeff Polman is important and needs
to passed on from one fan to another, to another until something is done!

www.LADodgers.com

An Open, True Blue Letter to Vin Scully
Posted: 02/18/2015

Vin Scully to throw the frist pitch

Dear Vin,
I’m originally from New England, but have been following the Dodgers and attending their games since I moved out here in 1982.

I have always had the utmost respect and appreciation for what you do, and it will be a sad day in this land when you finally hang up your golden microphone.

It will be a sadder day, however, if the current, seemingly unending squabble between the Dodgers, Time Warner Cable and DIRECTV over the rights to the Dodger network TV broadcasts is allowed to continue much longer.

As you know, two thirds of the Los Angeles market was shut out of watching the games virtually all of 2014, which included masterful no-hitters by Josh Beckett and Clayton Kershaw, a triumphant Western Division pennant race with the Giants, and another season listening to your classy, informative tones for entire games.

It was unbelievably aggravating. For Dodgers fans truer and bluer than I, it must have been a nightmare. The entities with the power to end this stalemate have now had an entire offseason to take care of business and ensure this never happens again.

So far, they have accomplished nothing. The issue has been written about in the Los Angeles Times and elsewhere, discussed (though likely not enough) on local sports radio, yet no solution even seems to be in sight.
This capsule will be the appropriate choice for those who are anxious how to get rid of ED naturally and completely. cialis super viagra These 2 cheap india viagra http://robertrobb.com/on-tax-reform-liberals-win-round-one/ conditions mutually will undoubtedly overcome with negative impact on fertility. Milk Thistle Extract – herbal supplement for liver cleanse Ample of studies suggest milk thistle to be effective against cirrhosis, mortality rate due to discount cialis generic liver diseases, and enrich liver function. 3.
In my mind, it is only a matter of time before angry Dodgers fans stop attending the games altogether. I certainly intend to be one of them. The Dodgers are more than just a team and a corporation; they are a public trust.

Older fans who first attended Dodgers games at the Memorial Coliseum, then moved on to Chavez Ravine and supported them for decades, merely want to relax at home now and watch them on TV with your wonderful announcing. Depriving them, even more than the rest of us, is a selfish, unacceptable crime.

Therefore, I am asking if you would do the one sensible thing that may finally put an end to this quagmire. Just pick up the phone, call the Dodgers, and say “Either fix this thing now, or I walk.” Sure, there’s likely no legal or contractual way this could even happen, but boy, would you ever be more of a hero to Dodger Nation than you already are.

There would be a Vin Scully statue in every Southern California town.

You may say I’m a dreamer, Vin, but I can assure you: I’m not the only one.

Best, Jeff

Jeff Polman writes about baseball for various Internet publications and writes “fictionalized” historical replay novels. Mystery Ball ’58, his latest one, will be available on Amazon in a few weeks.

There are probably a whole lot of us Dodger Fans that due to our advanced age, or little ones at home at old enough to sit still at a 3+ hour game, cannot simple drive out to the stadium to watch our Dodgers play as much as we really want to.

Therefore, we watch every game we can on TV, enjoying every moment, that is until last year when many of the Dodger fans were ‘shut out’.

And it wasn’t due to technical difficulties, but to the greed of a certain cable company. Not Good!

Hopefully if enough pressure is applied this situation with sort itself out and once again fans can enjoy a dodger game on TV.

I feel the same way, Baseball and sports should be open to everyone and not control by those who has the most money, But that is the way everything seems to be going. So share this article with your sports friends and family.

March Madness 2015

WHAT IS ‘MARCH MADNESS’?

March Madness, college playoff win or go home

March Madness, college playoff win or go home

What is it about men’s college basketball? Especially the NIT and the NCAA tournaments.

We spend hours agonizing over what schools to pick, do we go for the long shot or pick the favorites.

Some fans will use the school mascots as the deciding factor.
What school’s mascot will win over the other school’s mascots?
There are still others that will simply flip a coin, but no matter how it gets done, it seems that
everyone had their bracket.

Use to link to set up your bracket or to follow who’s in and who’s out

http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/basketball-men/d1

It starts with smaller tournaments all over the United States, each division only able to send it best college teams to the tournament.

It all comes down to only 68 teams competing over a matter of just a few weeks starting in March, hence the term ‘March Madness’ and it doesn’t end until there is just one team left standing.

The winning college teams enter the NCAA tournament; the college teams that are the runners up enter the NIT tournament as their consolation prize.

But it’s the NCAA tournament that will have people glued to their TV, radios and their computers.

Well over 3 million people signed on to ESPN’s March Madness last year to filled out their brackets, with many more just doing it for fun and not using ESPN at all.

If you are not a basketball fan it would hard for you to imagine what all the fuss is about.

http://www.ncaa.com/

I joined in on the fun last year and picked most of the favorites to win and before the end of the tournament even got close, most of my bracket was a complete bust.

However, while it lasted I was glued to the TV, watching and holding my breath as my teams either won or lost, (mostly lost) and enjoying every minute of it.

It wasn’t always like this, long before the idea of March Madness, there was still college basketball.

I can remember watching college basketball long before I had ever heard of bracketing.

However I did a ‘google’ search to find out that the use of brackets go all the way back to 1943.

But didn’t catch on until the mid 1982 when CBS actually showed the use of the bracket on TV. However, I personally think the whole bracket obsession really began with ‘social media’ .

Anyone that owns a cell phone, Pad, or computer can keep track of all the basketball teams, the scores and get immediate updates regarding the status of their personal bracket.

That in itself opened up the game of college basketball to everyone and anyone.

March Madness 2015 Anyone and almost everyone has a bracket

March Madness 2015 Anyone and almost everyone has a bracket

All I know is that I am a UCLA Fan, but I have also been known to root for USC, Stanford, Cal, and a few other California College team, but my heart still belongs to the Bruins.

There was hope this year for UCLA and several other CA college teams to immerse from their local tournaments and onto being one of the 64 teams to go to play in the March Madness tournament.

We all know that Baseball is still listed as ‘The Great American Past Time’.

But with the invention of the brackets, and social media, college basketball might be the new great American past time at least during March Madness.

There has been quite a bit of news regarding the loss of production in the work force do to this madness for college basketball.

March Madness 2015 and lost production

Some employers have tried to embraced it and use it as a means to improve moral in the workplace, others just see it as a waste of time, their time and their time is money.

http://business.time.com/2013/03/19/march-madness-will-cost-businesses-134-million-why-arent-employers-concerned/

I see no end to this phenomenon known as ‘march madness, as long as everyone loves a winner and these games are set at such a fast pace, what’s not to love. TV sponsors know this and have adjusted the showing of ‘March Madness’ to guarantee a large viewing audience. No longer does March Madness actually end in March but closer to mid-April, ensuring the games are mostly played over weekends thus a larger audience. There are now 68 teams that will start the ‘Madness’ on March 17.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_NCAA_Men%27s_Division_I_Basketball_Tournament

Last year I had to toss out my bracket before even getting to the ‘Final Four’ I am hopeful that this year
I will actually have a enough teams left to make it all the way to at least the ‘final four’ .

But no matter how bad or how good I do, it is still so much fun to at least try my luck and there is always ‘next year’.
