There were several major upsets in the world of college football, almost every Monday or Tuesday we saw the rankings change. When the regular season finally ending, there was only one college still undefeated, and that was Florida State with 12 wins and 0 losses. However, even with their perfect season, Florida State is ranked 4th by the Polls and with Alabama ranked 1st.

As the month of December proceeds, the list of who plays who and in what College Bowl game will be announced.

However, College football isn’t the only sport, coming to end of their season, the NFL regular season is also slowly drawing to an end. In a few short weeks, we will be tuning in to the NFL to watch the several rounds of playoff games and finally ending with the ‘Super Bowl’

The Super bowl game will be held Sunday February 1, 2015 , and Super Bowl XLIX (49) will be played in the Phoenix, Arizona.

There are a few sports that are not done yet, in fact, a couple of them are not even half way through their seasons.

Santa at playBasketball is one of them, both college and professional. We all know about the College Basketball March Madness, right?
Sport fans barely have time to gather their thoughts from the Super Bowl when College basketball will be taking center stage in February and March.

End of Season, Dodgers Cleaning House

For One Thing Dodgers are cleaning house

End of Baseball SeasonIn the world of sports at the end of the season is all about who’s getting Trading or Chopped?

Dodgers Cleaning House, will it help?

No matter what the sport, at the end of every individual sport season everyone associated with that sport ends up not knowing if they will keep their job.

This is especially true when there was a high expectation for a team ‘to go all the way’ and for whatever reason they don’t.

This was true with the Los Angeles Lakers last season when not only was Paul Gasol traded to the Bull, but even their coach Mike D’Antoni was replaced by Byron Scott.

www.NBA.com/lakers

Now it’s the MLB’s turn. There are many baseball teams that were expected to a whole all better than what they actually did. It didn’t seem to matter how much money the owners of the teams spend on players, they did not live up to huge price tags.

So, who will get the axe? Who will be sent back to AAA baseball and who will get traded? No one knows for sure, but the rumors are flying all over the sports world.

The Dodgers have already made the news with the hiring of a new GM, Andrew Friedman, and the former GM of the Tampa Bay Rays. What happen to Colletti, you ask? Well the owners actually kept Colletti as a senior advisor.

http://nypost.com/2014/10/14/how-dodgers-swiping-the-rays-gm-shakes-up-baseball-world/

http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/98487820/andrew-friedman-named-dodgers-president-of-baseball-operations-colletti-becomes-advisor

broom 300But I don’t think the Dodgers are done with cleaning house, high priced players that don’t earn their pay will need to either be traded or somehow, someway show the Dodger owners that they are worth the investment.

However, it just isn’t the Dodgers, how about the Los Angeles Angels, the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Socks, the Atlanta Braves, and all teams that on paper should be playing in the World Series.

www.MLB.com

This year the Oakland Raiders did not even wait until the end of their season to try and change from a losing season by firing their coach Dennis Allen, after only 5 weeks into their season. Then the owner hires Tony Sparano as their interim coach.

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2014/10/07/raiders-return-to-work-under-new-coach/

But there is still the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the St. Louis Rams, each and every one of these teams have a losing season so far this year! Their owners are already looking at how to get their
‘product’ producing and become winning teams. New Managers, coaches, quarterbacks, whatever it will take.

www.NFL.com

Then you have the owner of the Washington Redskins. They have already replaced their coach, traded their under-producing players and there are still facing a losing season.

http://www.nfl.com/teams/profile?team=WAS

What it comes down to is no matter how good you are in you particular sport, have a bad year and you could end of being traded or become a ‘free agent’

It sometimes doesn’t even matter that you played you very best and the term as a whole wasn’t having a good year, in the eyes of the owner, someone will take the
Fall, to become the scapegoat so to speak.

Sports Update 9/14

Sports updates 9/14 in Major League Baseball, Pro and College Football

Sports updates for 9/14

Sports updates for 9/14

Are you ready for the 2nd half of September and Sports? There is only a few months in the year where the ‘hype’ for various sports comes crashing together. September is such a month!

We are in the last month of the regular season of Major League Baseball. The 2014 Baseball Playoffs will start the very first week of October and to add even more drama, each league will send 2 wildcard teams to the playoffs this year instead of one each! www.mlb.com

With the Major League Baseball Playoffs just around the corner in the month of October. Who will represent the National league and who will represent the American league is the baseball lover’s first question on their mind? The second question is who will survive the playoffs to meet in the 2014 World Series.

Some familiar teams and a couple of new ones look like they will be fighting all the way to the end for a chance to make the ‘Playoffs’ and move on to the chance to play in the World Series.

The first wild card playoff game is already schedule to be held October 1st with ‘The World Series Games’ scheduled to start October 23rd. There is also the game of the moving and trading around of players and managers, which will start as soon as the very next day after the end of the regular season.

Both Dodger and Angel baseball fans are getting very excited just thinking about the possible of a playoff scenario between the Dodgers and the Angels, who at the beginning of September were both in first place.

However, in the National League, the Dodgers first have to stay in first place by staying ahead of the Giants, then get past the Washington Nationals and the St Louis Cardinals plus 2 wild card teams. www.dodgers.com

The American League will see the LA Angels have to get past the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals, and again 2 wild card teams. www.LAAngels.com

Also in September, we see the start of the NFL season, and due to the increase in popularity of football, brought on by the millions of people that play fantasy football, we will now see NFL football on Thursday, Sunday and Monday’s.
www.NFL.com

Starting in September and lasting all the way until January you have millions now
playing Fantasy Football. It has been so ingrained in our way of life that it is hard to imagine life before someone invented the thing. All I know that it has changed the way people now watch football. It is now more about the individual players and their stats than the actual teams. Amazing!

For those of us that want more than just watching the NFL, there is also College football which has also just started with both UCLA and USC winning their two game of their new season.

So far this season, College Football has proven why it has also grown in popularity over the last several years. There has been several huge upsets already and in a playoff system that doesn’t left much room for teams that lose every one game, losing your first or second game can end the collage team’s dream of making it to the BCS Championship game in 2015.

By the way, in case you have heard, the NCAA Football playoff system has been changed to further meet the demands of the growing amount of fans. You might want to check out this link if you need an update.

YES, Football is back!

Extra Extra Football is back
The first preseason football game was Aug. 3, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame with the New York Giants playing the Buffalo Bills and even through it was only a preseason game, it was televised with a whole lot of football fans excited to have Football back.

However, if you are like me, it was hard to keep track of all the moving around and swapping of players. Not only players, moving around, but managers and coaches as well.

Not to mention the players that completely fell off the grid. Such as New Orleans Saints cut Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham’s not happy about it

NFL Players aren’t the only changes that a football fan is going to need to keep track of. There are also five rules changes, an extensive crackdown on on-field taunting and abusive language and a two-game preseason experiment that will move extra-point attempts from the 2-yard line to the 20 (effectively a 38-yard try) will bring a new look to the 2014 NFL season.

The new crackdown on taunting will result in more 15-yard penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct because Fisher said the league is trying to set the standard for college football and other youth levels of the game.

The NFL will also be working to improve the equipment being used by its players, perhaps it will bean answer to improving concussion situation will be through technology.

There is also the news that apparently CBS will be showing almost all of the Thursday night Footballs Games this coming season, that is especially good news for many football fans that can’t get or afford the NFL station. However, CBS is not showing all the Thursday night games, but enough. Die-hard fans who can’t get the NFL station will still have to make another arrangements for the few games that CBS will miss.

Now if only CBS or FOX or even NBC could get their hands on ‘red zone’ or at least a version of it!

Sports Talk Update 6/14

sports talk 4 dummies review

Sports Blog for June 2014

We are just about mid-way through the year and so far, it has been a year filled with sport headlines.

Basketball is just about done with their playoffs, as well as Hockey. Baseball is getting close to it’s midway with The National Baseball League All-Star game just around the corner. And there
is already talk about it being less than a hundred days before NFL has its season start again.

All this going on, and what makes the headlines constantly, the sale of the Clippers, of course.
Every Clipper fan at the news of the sale for 2billion dollars had to cringe a little.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2014/04/29/what-donald-sterling-could-make-if-hes-forced-to-sell-the-clippers/

For years the Clippers have always been the bridesmaid to the Los Angeles Lakers. Even after the Clippers won their division and went on to play in the playoffs, they were still the main LA basketball team. Now with the sale of the team, you just had to ask, where will they play next year or the year after? There are lots of cities out there that would love to get the Clippers to move to their city.

But first the LA Clippers have to work out something out with Donald Sterling, his wife, and the Natural Basketball League. Every day it is something new in the headlines, first Donald is told his has to sell, then his wife goes ahead and puts the team up for sale, then Donald say ‘no way’ and files a law suit. He then cancels the law suits and agrees to the sale if the NBA agrees to certain term and as of June 9, Donald is once again suing the NBA.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/report–former-microsoft-ceo-steve-ballmer-to-buy-los-angeles-clippers-for-nba-record–2-billion-234227311.html

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/attorney-donald-sterling-says-no-011930818–nba.html

However, the Clippers are not the only Sports team on the market, the owners of the Buffalo Bills have also decide to sell and have hired a legal firm to do just that. Due to the reasons behind the sale of the Clippers, the sale of the Buffalo Bills has had almost no press.

Studies show that foods such as citrus, chocolate, cialis professional india garlic, onions, spicy, fried and fatty foods all contribute to and can aggravate acid reflux. This condition can be experienced during pills viagra canada masturbation or intercourse with a partner. However the fans of the Buffalo Bills will have the same concerns as the Clipper fans, you just never know after the sale of a sports team what changes will the new owner implement.

When The Walt Disney Company took control of the team in 1997, it extensively renovated Anaheim Stadium, which was then renamed Edison International Field of Anaheim

When Gene Autry sold the Angels in 1997 to The Walt Disney Company, the only changes was their name from the California Angels, to the Anaheim Angels, and after Disney renovated Anaheim Stadium, it was renamed Edison International Field of Anaheim. When Disney sold the Angels to In 2005, new owner Arturo Moreno added “Los Angeles” to the team’s name in order to better tap into the team’s history and appeal to more Los Angeles fans as in the team’s past.

He also stated that as Los Angeles is the second largest market in the U.S., its addition would benefit the team greatly. However in order to stay in compliance with the terms of its lease with the city of Anaheim, which required “Anaheim” be a part of the team’s name, the team was renamed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Angels_of_Anaheim

Should fans worry about what can happen after a sports team gets sold? Yes, just ask any Dodger fan!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LA_Dodgers

Under the owner Real estate businessman Walter O’Malley, the dodgers moved from Brooklyn New York to Los Angeles and on April 18, 1958, the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles, defeating the former New York and now new San Francisco Giants, 6–5, before 78,672 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

In 1998 the son of Walter O’Malley , Pete, sold the team to the Fox Entertainment Group, it only lasted a few years before the team was sold again to Frank McCourt in 2004. Under McCourt leadership, the fans were so fed up with all the garbage that they stopped going to the games. Not just a few fans at a few games, but a lot of fans, hundreds of them stayed away from almost every home game.

McCourt was finally forced to sell the team by order of a Bankruptcy Court in 2012.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/7180599/frank-mccourt-agrees-sell-los-angeles-dodgers

So, as a Clipper fan, you should be concerned, the Clipper Team could end up just like the Seattle Super Sonics, who in 2008 left Seattle and are now know as the Oklahoma City Thunder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_Thunder#Franchise_history

The best scenario for us, Clipper fans, will be that only the price of admissions will increase and the increase won’t be so high so to keep the fans at home watching the game on TV or the local sports bar.

NFL Extra Point

The National Football League To Remove The Extra Point

kicking the extra point football

dodo bird 200

In case you haven’t heard, the extra point in the NFL might be going the way of the dodo bird.

This past January, The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell began hinting that the days of the extra point as we know it are numbered. He also went on to say that it is in “large part because the conversion rate is a staggering 99.6 percent”. “Are there any plays in the game that really are not consequential?” Goodell said at the time. “You want to add excitement with every play.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Goodell

The extra point in the National Football League has been a part of the game from the very start.

Because of this, many is the sports world have come up with alternatives to completely eliminating this extra point. One idea is that the NFL considers moving the spot of the attempt, thus making it more difficult.

This proposal, which would force teams to kick from, let’s say, the 25 yard line, would make it a 42 yard attempt. The conversion rate for a field goal from that distance has hovered between 80 and 90 percent over the last few decades, which should be enough of an uncertainty to inject a little more life into the game.

By moving the point on the field when a team kicks the ball could possibility force teams to consider doing the two-point conversion more often. Considering that the two-point conversions work at least half the time, even more so on a running plays, and suddenly the moments after a touchdown become that much more strategically important.

The 25-line proposal should come before the NFL Competition Committee, but there is no clear consensus yet.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000330411/article/nfl-might-experiment-with-making-extrapoint-attempts-longer

Personally, I don’t have a problem with the extra point and if given a choice of totally eliminating it or moving the location, I vote for moving it and not doing away with it completely.
Why? Simple, we have seen a jump in the successful blocking of the extra point and what would advertiser do without that extra AD time between making the touchdown and setting up for the extra point attempt.front of old monopoly boradjpg

There is also the history behind the ‘extra point’. Long before football became the NFL, there has always been the ‘extra point’. It is among the oldest parts of the game of gridiron football and dates all the way back to its rugby roots.

In the earliest days, scoring a touchdown was not the primary objective but a means of getting a free kick at the goal. It wasn’t until the start of the 20th century that touchdowns had become more important and the roles of the touchdown and the extra kick were reversed. It was at this time the point value for the after-touchdown kick was reduced to its current one-point value while the touchdown was now worth five. This was later increased to six points in American football in 1912.

And although a successful kick is only worth one point, missing it can decide the outcome of the game. Perhaps the most famous example of this was the 2003 game between the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars, where, after scoring a touchdown as time expired, the Saints kicker, John Carney missed the extra point, giving the Jaguars a 20 to 19 victory.

Another example is another game in 2003 between Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, that was sent in to overtime due to a blocked extra point.

Hopefully both Roger Goodell and the Competition Committee remember this and have decided ‘for now’ to delay doing anything regarding the ‘extra point’. But it is only safe for this year, who knows what the future holds for it.

Lets Gossip About Sports

Sports blog – February 2014

Both man and woman gossip about sports

Both men and women gossip about sports

One of the biggest myths around is that women love to gossip and not men. Yet gossip seems to take center court over and over again in the world of sports.

Why? Simple it sells! And not just to the women fans but all fans across all ages!

Why does the stories surrounding A-Rod capture the front page of the news over and over again, does anyone really care who he suing today or will be suing tomorrow or that the MLB players Union wants him gone or that the Yankees, themselves want him gone as well? Apparently yes!

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb-players-association-would-expel-a-rod-if-it-could-171857810.html

Let’s not forget there is also the fact that ‘bad news’ sells. If you watch or listen to Sports Central, or ESPN the headlines are usually reserved for the ‘bad guys first. Who trashed talk who takes up more TV time than who actually won the game. First comes the ‘trash talk’ and the comments from every sports commentator that can be found, then of course the time allotted to the ‘I’m Sorry’ campaign by the trash talker himself.

Carroll says Sherman sorry rant overshadowed win
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/carroll-says-sherman-sorry-rant-004022049–nfl.html

Now you add the time for the rebuttal by the fans of the team that the trash talker plays on that were interview and you have an awful large amount of time spend on ‘bad news’

Seattle soft? 12th Man shows it has Richard Sherman’s back amid criticism of Seahawk’s postgame behavior.

Even more time than was spend showing the highlights of the game. I personally get a little frustrated with this. I would love the ‘sports world’ to spend more time with showing the positive aspects of sports, but then again, apparently that isn’t what gains views/fans.

Premature ejaculation treatment in pfizer viagra discount delhi is not done frequently. Vacuum pump treatments and cialis online pharmacy medical caverject are some of the physical examination, laboratory investigations, and personal interaction may be required to conclude. A lot of people don’t prefer using cash when they have the freedom of viagra store in india simply using their card and paying the money beforehand. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/jets-quarterback-geno-smith-reportedly-kicked-off-plane-164817930–nfl.html

Another example of this phenomena shows up again when a book is written by someone in the sports world and although the book has probably many sport stories in it, the one that gets noticed by ‘Sports TV’ is the negative ones.

Example of this is when Former prominent NFL agent Leigh Steinberg wrote in a book released Tuesday that he advised quarterback Ryan Leaf not to attend a meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, who would then select Peyton Manning instead with the top overall pick in the 1998.

Steinberg: Leaf duped Colts out of drafting him in ’98
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/steinberg-leaf-duped-colts-drafting-183729125–nfl.html
Like I said, only the fact that someone might have done something ‘bad’ to some else, did the fact the Mr. Steinberg even got his book mentioned on TV.

And even then the world of sports didn’t stop with just mentioning the book; they have actually taking time to track down the persons involved for their side of the story to air on TV.

All this makes for good drama TV and slowly and completely taking over our sports world. We care more about what players do off the field of battle. What drugs they might have taken, who they are dating, or who’s getting a divorce. The average sports fan is still obsessed with any and all news that hits the airwaves concerning Aaron Hernandez, it doesn’t even matter that he is in jail and no longer playing football for the New England Patriots.

It’s tough to explain to a small child who is just starting to show an interest in sports, that there is more to sports than the above, that there are still players out there that play for the sheer joy of being able to play. There are still players out there that are good but never make the headlines, they play by all the rules, even the ‘golden’ rules.

Over the last several years, the NFL Pro Bowl has lost favor with the fans of football and if no one is watching, then advertisers won’t pay the huge amounts of cash to get their Ads shown during the game.

This new format takes into account the huge success of ‘Fantasy Football’. Fans of Fantasy Football don’t exact follow teams or whether the teams are AFC or NFC, it is all about the individual players.

The first-ever Pro Bowl Draft will be nationally televised during a live three-hour primetime broadcast on NFL Network at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders will serve as alumni team captains for their respective squads.

Reflection back on sports 2013

Reflecting back on sports 2013

With 2013 winding to a close, it time to reflect on what has happened this past year in the world of sports and ask where did the time go?

http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=top+baseball+plays+of+2013

As a Dodger fan, it was definitely a good year under the new ownership. We saw some amazing pitching by Kershaw and Greinke. Kershaw even won the Cy Young. There were great plays by several Dodger players, such as Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Carl Crawford.

We also saw a rookie not only play well, but Yasiel Puig brought back excitement to the Dodger Stadium that the fans have not seen for several years. The Dodgers didn’t make it very far into the playoffs, but there is renewed hope for next year.

Our local collages football teams also had a lot to offer us sports fans this past year. Without a NFL team in the Southern California both USC and UCLA get a awful lot of our support.

We found out what a difference a coach can make when dealing with a losing season, USC fires Lane Kiffin and turn the team over to an interim coach which turns the team completely around and leads the USC football to several wins.

However it was after the loss to UCLA that USC ended that coach’s rein and hire Steve Sarkisian from the Washington Huskies as the new coach for the 2014 season.

With UCLA taking the win from USC at the Coliseum, it was a upset, UCLA has not beat USC at the Coliseum in a very long time. It was also two years and two wins in a row for UCLA against USC and that hasn’t happened for a long time either.

And although either UCLA or USC made it to any of the BCS Bowls, they will still play in a bowl game. It will be Stanford, with its win over Arizona, and won the Pac-12 title that will play Michigan at the Rose Bowl January 1. This was the second year in a row for the Stanford Trees.

We also saw lots of controversy in a lot of different sports. Baseball, NFL Football, hockey, basketball and even collage sports were not spare from making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Hopefully next year will be a better year for sports, with players not resorting to drugs and violence to solve their problems.

Kids and Sports

With the baseball season completely over until next season, all eyes on now on Hockey, Basketball and Football.

As parents, we set examples of we value in life to our children and that includes sports. We play sports and we watch sports, either in person or on TV. Most of us want our children to also include sports in their everyday life. We encourage them to watch sports with us, whether it’s baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer or football.

We also work very hard to get them involved in sports. We want them to play a sport, any sport.
We teach them to throw a ball at a very early age, most kids are taught this trick before even learning to walk.

Why Parents Pressure Kids in Sports?

http://voices.yahoo.com/why-parents-pressure-kids-sports-11118164.html

The hard part comes when our child starts to develop his or hers own interest. We love baseball, but our child thinks it is the most boring game on the planet; they want to play soccer or basketball. We love football, yet again they want to play baseball. It never fails! Our children have their own minds and will decide what sport if any, they will play.

And what do we do as a parent? We take a crash course in the sport that our child wants to play.

I have a dear friend that knew nothing of BMX off-course bike riding, but she does now! Her little princess is a major contender in this sport, and my friend who once would never miss a LA Angel baseball rarely gets to go to one now.

She spends most Saturdays and Sundays at various BMX competitions.

Sports: Should Parents Push Their Children to Play?

As a parent we also have to help gently guide our children into not picking the wrong sport for them. Nothing is more heartbreaking for a parent that to watch their child not success in a sport that they
really wanted to play. And believe it or not it happens a lot, a small built child not matter how much they want to complete in basketball or football could get hurt or not even get the chance to play.
Or a child that wants to play soccer more than anything, but due to allergies can’t play on the grass.

However, if you are a parent with a young child that has decided to play football,

it is not an easy as it was in the past. As a parent in today’s environment, we now know about the health risks to a person that plays football. Concussions suffered during the game early on can be devastating for these players as early in their lives as their mid-forties.

Our children see how much football is loved in this country; they see the rewards for players that make it to the NFL. They also know that even if they are not good enough to go to the NFL, their skills in football could give them a chance to go to the college of their choice for very little money.

It is a decision that I am glad I don’t have to make. How safe is Pop-Warner football? How save is High School Football? How protective is the equipment that our kids are using? Most high schools are under-funded for their sports programs and it probably didn’t show up in sports like baseball, swimming or even basketball, but football? Does the school have the latest and best equipment out there for the players that play football? And if high schools can’t provide it, how can it be expected by the Pop-Warner leagues!

Mistakes Parents Make When Their Kids Play Sports.
