2019 Baseball Playoffs

It’s time for the 2019 Baseball Playoffs and once again October means the baseball season is almost over and over the next couple of weeks we will watch the MLB playoffs.

First we will have the ‘Wild Card’ match ups and

then on to the actually playoffs, ending with the World Series, which is schedule to be played October 22 to the 30th

mlb.com/postseason

If the Dodgers can hang in there and make it once again to the ‘World Series’, it will be their 3rd in a row to make it but have yet to win.

Hopefully the old saying the third time is a charm’ will work out in the Dodgers favor.

It would be nice to see another World Series victory.

The dodgers last world series win was in 1988 when Kirk Gibson hit the iconic home run in Game 1 and the Dodgers beat the Oakland A’s 4 games to 1.

wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_World_Series

However , it is the same old story for the LA Angels. (and in the past the Angel fans were blaming the old coach, Mike Scioscia, for all the team losses or lack of wins as so elegantly stated by an Angel representative just before Mike retired as manager/coach.

The Angels have not been to the playoffs since 2014, but there is always hope for next year. The last year the Angels not only got to the World Series, but won it was in 2002, and it was under the supervision of Mike Scioscia.

www.LAAngels.com

If the Dodgers once again make it the World Series, but fail to win once again, I am hoping that this time someone in upper management will take a much needed long close look at Dave Roberts and his ability to lead the team in high pressure situations.

His past decisions when it came down to the wire, such as letting Darvish pitch for the second time in the 2017 games, even after totally blowing it with his first attempt, he allowed so many runs that the Dodgers.

No matter how good they were, could not catch up, and not just in the first game he pitched but the second as well.

Why Did the Dodgers Lose World Series 2017?

Yu Darvish Is Now Public Enemy Number One in L.A. newsweek.com

Then Roberts repeats in mistakes once again last year in the 2018 games, allowing Kershaw and Jansen to blow it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Kershaw, but sometimes he really struggles with his pitches and a really good manager should have been able to see it.

nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Red-Sox-Dodgers-World-Series-Game

How the Dodgers do this year in not only the World Series, but also the playoffs, comes down to how well Dave Roberts can get the pitching rotation figured out.

The Dodgers have a whole lot of talent both new and not so new, he just needs to get it right.

Roberts cannot solely base his decisions on how much the pitcher, such as Kershaw, wants to pitch and to win, everybody has bad days.

Roberts just needs to be on top of it and be prepared to pull any player that is having a that ‘bad day’.

I have my fingers crossed that this year the Dodgers will once again not only make it to the World Series, but are victorious. Go Blue! www.dodgers.com

2019 Dodgers Season So Far

So what does the 2019 Dodgers season so far look like?

It’s September and how about those Dodgers.

We were mid-way through the season at right around the time of the All Star Break;Mid Season Dodger 2019 the Dodgers were in First Place, not only in the Western Division of the National League, but also for the whole National League.

The Dodgers were well over 600% games won, the closest to them and in second was the Atlanta Braves at around 590%.

Many sport enthusiasms have already made the predication that the Dodgers will once again make it all the way to the World Series for the third time in a row

Maybe three times will be the charm for the Dodgers and they will come home with a World Series win.

World Series 2019 Odds: Dodgers, Astros Favored, But Yankees, Cubs Are Best Bets In Baseball. www.ibtimes.com/world-series-2019

Or maybe not!  If you have actually watch any of the Dodger games, win or lose, it’s not a pretty site.

They are sorely lacking in the ‘Bullpen’.  Just a few weeks ago I watch the Kershaw hand the ball over to bullpen with the score, Dodgers 6 and the Marlins 1, and of course you would naturally think that with a 5 run lead, no problem, ring up another win for the dodgers.

However, with the bullpen, nothing can be taking for granted. When the Dodgers came up to bat in the bottom of the eighth, the score was tied, 6 to 6.

The Marlins had scored 5 runs in the top of the eighth. Only due to the fact that the dodgers scored 4 runs and for Baez to hold it together to get the win .

The Dodgers are in desperate need of a reliever and a closer. www.truebluela.com/2019

From the above article: ‘Looking around at the bullpen, essentially every player has underwhelmed this year, with there being a level of concern across the board. Kenley Jansen is having one of the worst seasons of his career, with his ERA just under four.

Joe Kelly, who was signed to be the go-to guy come October, hasn’t lived up to his contract yet. Pedro Baez has been solid, but has had appearances where he implodes.

Scott Alexander and Caleb Ferguson, both left-handers, have struggled immensely this season, and neither one is currently on the active roster.

Yimi Garcia has looked good at times, but has been shaky over the last two years and has only one postseason game under his belt. Dylan Floro started off great, but has an ERA of eight since the middle of May.

When all goes right, this bullpen can look really good on most nights. But with the Dodgers looking to avoid their third straight World Series loss, is that something you want to take a chance on?

Dodgers: Possible “Damaged Goods” to Help the Bullpen. dodgersway.com/2019

Unfortunately, it has happened several times this season where the starting pitchers have handed a winning game over to the bullpen just to watch them blow it and unfortunately the dodgers haven’t been able to come from behind and take back the win .

However, the bullpen isn’t the only problem, Kenley Jansen isn’t pitching as well as he use to. Perhaps it is due to all the minor injuries taking their toll or perhaps it is the first sign of ‘old’ age creeping in.

Whatever the problem is, he is definitely struggling

Apparently this is not the first year that Jansen has had his troubles, last year many sports announcer were asking the same question, ‘What’s wrong with Jansen?’

What’s wrong with Kenley Jansen? Written back in April 2018. mlb.nbcsports.com/2018

Dave Roberts and upper management is going to have to deal with the above problems if the dodgers have any chance of not only getting to the World Series, but winning it at well.

At least the Dodgers did a few trades that have actually worked in their behalf.

They acquired Will Smith who would immediately become a fan favorite.

Then just before the July 31, 2019 deadline, they also acquired Tony Gonsolin, who immediately pitched four shut-out innings on July 30, helping the Dodgers get a win over the Rockies.

Tony had help from another played acquired at the same time, Kristopher Negron, and Tyler White who have also become instant fan favorites.

With all the dodgers that were on the DL, these additions were able to step-up and help the Dodgers stay in first place and hopefully will be a more rested team going into the playoffs and eventfully the World Series.

As Dodger fans, we can only hope that both Baez and Jansen will be up for the challenge or Dave Roberts will finally come to the conclusion, that neither Baez or Jansen are up for it and will use one of the several other pitchers, including Joe Kelly, that might be a better choice in the upcoming playoffs.

It will be great to not only see the Dodgers make it all the way the ‘World Series, but this time get the win, after all they say ‘that the third time is a charm’.

Go Blue !!

Farewell to Angel Manager Mike Scioscia

Farewell to Angel Manager Mike Scioscia

Farewell to Angel Manager Mike Scioscia

There has been 21 managers for the Angels and to tell you the truth there is only one that I remember, and that is Mike Scioscia.  Even though I considered myself a fan and went to as many games as my budget would allow, only the players stood out not the managers, most of them didn’t last long enough to make enough of an impact to be remember by most fans.

List of Los Angeles Angels managers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Los_Angeles_Angels_managers

Managers came and went. Starting in 1961 until 2000, Angel managers didn’t last very long.  Then in 2000 Mike Scioscia became the Manager of the Anaheim Angels under the ownership of the Walt Disney Company and a new era in Angel baseball began.

Growing up as a LA Dodger fan, I actually got to see Mike play for the Dodgers, and he was great as their catcher.  It all started when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1st round of the 1976 amateur draft.  Then a few years later in 1980, he replaced  Steve Yeager as their catcher and went on to play 12 years for the Dodgers.

Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda helped lobby Scioscia to sign with the Dodgers after the team drafted him out of Springfield (Delaware County) High School  in 1976.

Scioscia immediately made himself invaluable to the Dodgers by making the effort to learn Spanish in order to better communicate with rookie sensation Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.

Scioscia was a key player on the Dodgers’ 1981 and 1988 World Series champion teams.

After his playing career ended, Scioscia spent several seasons as a minor league manager and major league coach in the Dodgers organization before being hired as the Angels manager after the 1999 season.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Scioscia

As a manager, Scioscia led the Angels to their only World Series championship for now in 2002.

I remember when the Angels won the World Series in 2002 and the players from the that year’s team it was a really great team that Mike out together. And I loved to watch them play, they were good, I mean real good, with  Bengie Molina, as their Catcher,  Outfielders Tim Salmon,  infielder Chone Figgins and let’s not forget Francisco Rodriguez as pitcher.

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=2002&t=ANA

Unfortunately, by the time the Angels won the world series in 2002, it was too late for the original owner Gene Autry to actually see them win it all, but his wife, Jackie is still alive and got to see Autry’s beloved Angels take down the SF Giants in 7 games with Mike Scioscia as their manager.

It was a sad day for a lot of Angel fans when at the end of this 2018 season, Mike announced his retirement.

The Ups and Downs of Being a Dodger Fan

The ups and downs of being a Dodger Fan!

It has been a really rough roller coaster ride for us Dodger Fans this past season.

I am not even close to getting over last year’s distastes seventh game of the ‘world series’, which I still hold Dave Roberts accountable for since he is the one that decided to play Yu Davish instead of ANYONE else especially after Davish have cause the loss in the second game and even after that the game he should be pulled out sooner than what he was. But that last year.

www.dodgers.comThe Ups and Downs of Being a Dodger Fan

I assumed that the rough start to this past season was due to the Dodgers not being fully recovered over the loss of the World Series. And it was a difficult start for the Dodgers, with only 12 wins and a whopping 16 losses in the months of March and April.

And the roller-coast ride began.

The month of May was not much better for the Dodgers, with 14 wins and 14 losses. We also saw several pitchers and players hit the DL list. Such injuries as Kershaw going down again and as well as Hill having to take a few days off due to a blister. Kershaw’s injury put him on the side lines until late June.

The good news is that for the month of June we saw a glimmer of our former Dodgers start to emerge. The Dodgers had 17 wins and only 9 losses. The Boys in blue might be back, and that was great! It was once again fun to see them play; they seemed happier, more in tune with playing as a team and they were winning!

Just before the ‘All Star ‘ break, the Dodgers were riding high, out of a total of 14 games before the break, they had managed to win 10 of them . July 2 the Dodgers played the Pirates and the dodgers didn’t just win they WON big with the final score of 17-1. The Dodgers continued their winning ways even after the break.

The Dodgers finally were making a run for first place in their division. The Arizona Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies were their only threat.

Then came August, not the best month for the boys in blue, once again they slipped down the rankings.
The Dodgers only got 14 wins and suffered 13 losses. What was funny was that every so many games the Dodgers just blew the other team out of the water.

On August 2, against the Braves with Kershaw pitching, they scored a team record of 21 runs, but then on August 4, against the Astros, with Maeda pitching, the Dodgers lost and lost big, the score was Dodgers zero and the Astros 14.

The whole month of August was filled with games that showed the Dodgers do know how to hit, get on base and even string the hits together and score runs. The month also showed that the team was loaded with really good pitchers.

Then you have the other games in August that showed major flaws and weakness in the way the game was being structure, especially in base running. Have to wonder is the players making the judgment calls and choosing wrong, or do you blame the manager, Dave Roberts.

The month of September has brought the whole ‘roller coaster ride’ to both its highest point, then straight down to the lowest. September saw the downfall of the Arizona Cardinals, and the Dodgers sweep the Colorado Rockies to assume ‘First Place’.

But we also saw the Dodgers slip back into second place with two losses to the third place team, the Cardinals.

As the Dodgers closed out the final 3 games of the 2018 season, they are still in second place and were trying to secure a playoff spot as the National league Wild Card team.

Much to the delight of a whole lot of Dodger Fans, the Dodgers actually managed to tie the Rockies for First Place in the National West Division. Which would call for a sudden death game, the winner takes the division and the loser takes the wild card.

We all held our breathe as the Rockies played the Dodgers at the Dodger Stadium on October 1 to see who would enter the playoffs as the division leader or as a wild card team, and we all celebrated the Dodgers easy win over the Rockies to move on in the playoffs.

.cbssports.com

October 2, the Rockies played the Chicago Cubs as the two wild card teams for the National League, battling it out to see who moves on in the MLB Playoffs. The Rockies managed to beat the Cubs 3 to 2, but it took 10 innings to do it.

Check out this link to see the full schedule of playoff games,

Want to wish the Dodgers all the luck as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers, October 4.

Hopefully we will see them once again make it all the way to the World Series and this time win. Go Blue, Go Dodgers! www.dodgers.com

Dodgers Bad Managing or Bad Playing?

Dodgers bad managing or bad playing? It’s hard to say, but we do know that the managing decisions made in 2017 may have cost the Dodgers the World Series Championship.

Dodgers Bad Managing or Bad Playing
I know it’s only June, and we are close to half way though the season, but is it hard to stay upbeat being a Dodger fan these days. Just another year of so-so playing, hitting and pitching for the Dodgers and another year of so-so managing for the Dodgers as well.

You have to ask yourself Why is it Dodgers bad managing or bad playing?

This year’s performance is not up to what we expect from our beloved Dodgers and there are several problems that are so apparent even to us couch coaches.  To come so close to actually winning the “World Series” and now this year having the worse start to a season since the Dodgers came to LA.

Reds sweep Dodgers, whose 16-24 record is the worst 40-game start since 1958

Reeling Dodgers struggling against National Baseball’s worst teams.

rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>www.usatoday.com/story/sports

There is a long list of problems that are so apparent. The first problem is the lack of ability to string their hits together, doesn’t matter if the teams gets a man or even a couple of men on base if they are left on base time and time again.    They have one of the lowest of RBI scored so far.

Dodgers drop struggling Chris Taylor from leadoff spot and move up Chase Utley http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-report-20180511-story.html

Second problem would be the lack of homeruns, so far this season the heavy bats have been fairly quiet.   I think, at last court it was around 40 HR for the season.  And the majority of the homeruns

have been hit by Grandal at 7, Bellinger at 6, Kemp at only 5 as well as Taylor at 5.

Corey Seager trying to swing his way out of slump

But the dodgers greatest problem is their lack of good pitchers, the starters are all struggling.  The Dodgers already have Rich Hill, Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryn on the disable list and the rest of the pitching staff is not pitching their best, not even close.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting”>Use this link to check on the team stats.

It is also frustrating to watch the Dodgers finally take a lead, and then to see the relief pitcher blow it.   Not just once or twice, but again time after time.   Baez’s ERA is 3.63, one win and 3 losses.  Alexander’s ERA is also high at 4.41.

The relief pitcher’s ERA are way too high to be able to hold down the fort until Jansen can close out the game. Add to that Jansen, who is one of the best closures out there, has blown a lot more games than in previous years.

The dodgers should know that it takes more than a couple of good hitters and one or two good pitchers to get the Dodgers to the World Series and actually win it, but you would never know it based on their lineup.   I still get upset just thinking about Roberts using Darvish to pitch the seventh game of the world series after Darvish completely blow his first attempt at pitching for the dodgers in the world series. Personally I think it was that choice of pitchers that cost the Dodgers the World Series.

Why Did the Dodgers Lose World Series 2017? Yu Darvish Is Now Public Enemy Number One in L.A.

http://www.newsweek.com/yu-darvish-la-dodgers-astros-world-series-game-7-mlb-sport-699377″ rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>www.newsweek.com

By the way, right after the World Series, the Dodgers traded Darvish to the Chicago Clubs and out of seven starts for the Cubs he has yet to win even one single game for them. I consider that to be a really good trade.

When Dave Roberts is asked what the team’s lack of performance this year, he tries to sound upbeat and mentions how many of the dodger team including several key pitchers are on the DL list.

As the Dodgers closed out May, the Dodgers were just a tad under 500 at 47. The Colorado Rockies are in first place in the Western Division, and as to the Dodgers, well they are in a distant fourth place and  3+ games out of first.

Dodgers Dugout: What’s wrong with the Dodgers?

www.latimes.com/sport

The Dodgers need more than Kershaw, it’s unfair to once again expect him to carry the team to the playoffs especially with his bad back.  The Dodgers fans need to see more.  It’s unfair to expect them to go to game after game, pay what they pay just to see a so-so game with the Dodgers losing instead of a good Dodger game.

Since the middle of May the Dodgers have actually showed some promise of what they could do. Since May 15 they have won 10 games and lost only 6.  Let’s just that hope that the dodgers can continue their winning ways since Kershaw is back on the DL along with Maeda, Hill and Ryn and it is not going to be easy.

Some of the best baseball fans are Dodger fans, no matter what city or what team the Dodgers are playing, you will see Dodgers fans in attendance, proudly wearing their Dodger blue hats and jerseys.

Dodgers Yes or No – Do they make it to the World Series?

Go Dodgers Go Blue

Go Dodgers Go Blue

From August 26 through September 11 the Dodgers went 1 win and 16 losses, which includes 11 losses in a row. This is the longest losing streak for the franchise since 1944 when they were the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Dodgers went from going 56 wins and only 11 losses in early June to late August without losing a series, this was just as remarkable as the losing streak that followed.

www.nbclosangeles.com

What is it with a team that can go from ‘winning’ to ‘losing’ from each one day to the next? Have to ask ‘is it because of injuries or is it because the spirit of the team went crashing down. Several of these losing games the Dodgers actually had the lead, just to have Dave Roberts pull the pitcher and put in Pedro Baez, which would blow the lead and the game not once or twice but several times and it wasn’t just Baez but several other pitchers that have proven themselves NOT be able to get the job done.

This after the young players were doing everything they could to win which included running into back wall and taking flying leap to catch fly balls hit while Baez was pitching. All that extra effort being put out by each team member for naught, did it get to them, and did it bring down their team spirit? Who knows? One thing is for sure, once they starting the downward spiral it took everything they had to break the losing streak.

I don’t know about you and the sports analysts, but when the manager starts putting in players that he is testing and is willing to give up a game because of it, I’m thinking isn’t that like putting the horse before the cart. You should actually win the division before you start messing with the line-up.

No team has ever won the World Series after a regular season that included an 11 game losing streak.

Dodgers still have the best record in the majors with a hearty 104-58 at the end of the regular season and taking their division. Dodgers fan should be happy but don’t start the celebration yet. The Dodgers have been here 4 years previous to this and got bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. Hopefully this year will be different. The Dodgers have all the pieces and even a few extra, and then just need to pull it all together.

Dodgers clinch National League West for 5th straight season
www.truebluela.com

However, The Dodgers have not only won their division, but will also have ‘home field’ advantage though-out the playoff and the World Series, they just need to get there. It won’t be easy. They first have to beat the winner of the ‘wild card’ game between the Arizona D-backs and the Colorado Rockies. Two teams that have given the Dodgers a whole lot of trouble this past year.

Even if they manager to win that round of playoffs, it doesn’t get any easier. They will have to play the winner of the matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals.

If the Dodgers can get though all of the above, then and only then will they actually make it to the ‘World Series’.

I will be holding my breath for most of October along with all the rest of us Dodger fans as our team slowly makes they way to the World Series.

This year should be exciting because the Dodgers appear to be a much better team this year and they weren’t all that bad last year.

But it just won’t be the same without Vin.  After a life time of being the Voice of the Dodgers, Vin Scully retired at the end of the 2016 season.

Once again the Dodgers ticket prices for the games have been increased, Not only has the base price for the Dodger games gone up, but this year the owners of the dodgers have decided that some games are worth more than other games, therefore some games will cost more to attend than others.

Games such as when the Dodgers play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, or the Boston Red Sox, or even when they play the New York Yankees, the games will cost more than when the Dodgers play the Arizona Diamondbacks. They probably will even charge more to attend the Dodgers rivals from up north, the San Francisco Giants when they come to town.

There are also rumors that the parking fee will also cost more as well as the price for food. All in all, the Dodgers better play very well and it better be a darn good game considering how much it is going to set you back to be there.

It also means that it’s time for Angel Baseball as well. Many Angel fans were absolutely sure that Mike Scioscia would not be returning for the 2017 season and that the owner Arte Moreno would fire him and opt for someone young with fresher ideas.

But it was not the case, the Angels manager, Mike Scioscia, is expected to return in 2017

On paper the Angels look really good for the upcoming season, but they have several older players that are injury prone. They will need to stay healthy in order for the Angels to fair better than the end 0f 2016, when they didn’t even make the playoffs.

Christmas indeed came early again for the Cubs, with one win, then another win, and then it was down to each team having 3 wins each, 3 for the Indians and 3 for the Cubs. Who was going home the 2016 world champions and who was going home the losers?

Chicago Cubs fans from all over flocked to Chicago to be part of history, to be part of the celebration, just to say I was there!   Thousands of fans descended on Wrigley Field, home of

Cubs even with the Cubs actually playing the last two games played in the Progressive field, home of the Cleveland Indians.

An estimated five million Cubs fans made their way to Chicago on Friday to celebrate the winning of the World Series championship, the last time they won was 108 years ago.

The Chicago Cubs have been around since the beginning of baseball as we know it.  The team, first known as the White Stockings, was a founding member of the NL in 1876, becoming the Chicago Cubs in

The Cubs have appeared in a total of eleven World Series. The 1906Cubswon 116 games, finishing 116–36 and posting a modern-era record winning percentage of .763, before losing the World Series to the Chicago White Sox (“The Hitless Wonders”) by four games to two.

The Cubs won back-to-back World Series championships in 1907 and 1908, becoming the first major league team to play in three consecutive World Series, and the first to win it twice. Most recently, the Cubs won the 2016 National League Championship Series and 2016 World Series, which ended a 71-year National League pennant drought and a 108-year World Series

Championship drought, both of which are record droughts in Major League Baseball

The 108-year drought was also the longest such occurrence in all major North American sports. Since the start of divisional play in 1969, the Cubs have appeared in the postseason eight times through the 2016 season.

The Cubs were playing in their eleventh World Series and their first since 1945, and won their first championship since 1908. It was the Indians’ sixth appearance in the World Series and their first since 1997, with their last Series win in 1948. The two teams entered their matchup as the two franchises with the longest World Series title droughts, a combined 176 years without a championship. Cleveland manager Terry Francona, who had previously won Series titles with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007, fell short in his bid to become the third manager, after Casey Stengel and Joe Torre, to win his first three trips to the Series

The Cleveland Indians are an American professional baseball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Indians compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. Since 1994, they have played at Progressive Field. The team’s spring training facility is at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona.

Since their establishment as a major league franchise in 1901, the Indians have won two World Series championships: in 1920 and 1948, along with eight Central Division titles and six American League pennants. The Indians’ current World Series championship drought is the longest active drought, and through 2016 is the fifth-longest in baseball history.

The name “Indians” originated from a request by club owner Charles Somers to baseball writers to choose a new name to replace “Cleveland Naps” following the departure of Nap Lajoie after the 1914 season. The name referenced the nickname “Indians” that was applied to the Cleveland Spiders baseball club during the time when Louis Sockalexis, a Native American, played in Cleveland.[4] Common nicknames for the Indians include the “Tribe” and the “Wahoos”, the latter being a reference to their logo, Chief Wahoo, a controversial Native American caricature. The team’s mascot is named “Slider.”

The Cleveland Indians originated in Michigan in 1894 as the Grand Rapids Rustlers, a minor league team in the Western League. The team moved to Cleveland in 1900, changing its name to the Cleveland Lake Shores; the Western League itself changed its name to the American League (AL) while continuing its minor league status. One of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the major league incarnation of the club was founded in Cleveland in 1901. Originally called the Cleveland Bluebirds, the team played in League Park until moving permanently to Cleveland Stadium in 1946. The Cleveland Indians reached the World Series in 2016 and held a 3–1 lead against the Chicago Cubs, but they ultimately lost the series. At the end of the 2016 season, they had a regular season franchise record of 9,191–8,837 (.510).

Not only did the Chicago and Cleveland fans enjoy the World Series, but apparently so did a lot of sport fans.

The 2016 World Series was the 112th edition of Major League Baseball‘s championship series, a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) champion Chicago Cubs and the American League (AL) champion Cleveland Indians, the first meeting of those franchises in postseason history.

The Indians had home-field advantage because the AL had won the 2016 All-Star Game. The Cubs defeated the Indians in seven games, their first World Series victory in 108 years. They clinched the Series in Game 7 with an 8–7 win in extra innings, marking the fifth time that a Game 7 had gone past nine innings, and the first one to have a rain delay, which happened just as the tenth inning was about to start. It was only the sixth time in World Series history that a team came back from a deficit of three games to one to win a championship. This was the third consecutive year that the visiting team won the deciding game of the World Series.

The Chicago’s newspapers headlines were all about the end of their curse. What curse? The Chicago Cubs’ billy goat curse placed on the team back in 1945, by a fan not being allowed to bring his goat to the game even though he had brought the goat a ticket.

Hopefully next year’s World Series will be as great as this one and it will include the Los Angeles Dodgers or The Los Angeles Angels.

What Is Going On Dodgers?

What is going on Dodgers? You have one of the highness paid teams and still play like you need better players.

What Is Going On Dodgers

I know it’s only June, and there is still a lot of baseball left before the season ends, but is it hard to stay upbeat being a Dodger fan these days. Just another year of so-so playing, hitting and pitching for the Dodgers and another year of so-so managing for the Dodgers.

We complained about the lack luster dodgers under the management of Don Mattingly, so he gets replaced by Dave Roberts. However, so far this season, there really hasn’t been all that much improvement.

This year’s performance is not up to what we expect from our beloved Dodgers and there are several problems that are so apparent even to us couch coaches. Unfortunately some of these problems were the reasons the dodgers did not make it past the first round of the playoffs last year.

The first problem is the lack of ability to string their hits together, doesn’t matter if the teams gets a man or even a couple of men on base if they are left on there time and time again.

Second problem would be the lack of homeruns, so far this season the heavy bats have been fairly quiet. Expect for a copy of the rookies, I think, at last court it was around 50 HR for the season.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting

But the dodgers greatest problem is their lack of good relief pitchers, time after time, game after game the starting pitcher turn the ball over to the relief pitchers just to see them cough up the lead and lose the game.

It is so frustrating to watch the Dodgers finally take the lead, and then Pedro Baez, or, Chris Hatcher or even JP Howell come in and blow it. Not just once or twice, but again time after time. Baez’s ERA is 4,29, Hatcher’s ERA is 5.75 and Howell’s is 5.51. Way too high ERA’a to hold down the fort until Jansen can close out the game. Add to that Jansen, who is one of the best closures out there, blows two saves in a row.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/stats/pitching/_/name/lad/los-angeles-dodgers

Wood’s 13-K performance goes to waste on May 21’s game against the Padres when the Bullpen adds six strikeouts, but Tsao walks in the Padres’ game-winning run.

The dodgers have a long list of pitchers on their rooster but continue to use the above pitchers over and over again. Why? Is this a problem due to bad management, coaching, or the Dodger ownership? Perhaps it due to their GM’s ability or lack of ability to trade for really good relief pitchers or fill the Dodger’s farm with relief pitchers.

The dodgers should know that it takes more than a couple of good hitters and one or two good pitchers to get the Dodgers to the World Series, but you would never know it based on their lineup.

When Dave Roberts is asked what the team’s lack of performance, he tries to sound upbeat and mentions how many of the dodger team including several key pitchers are on the DL list.

But what about Dave Roberts himself? Is he doing what is necessary to bring the team together? Some say yes, some say no. Roberts didn’t help his cause much either when during the Dodger game against the NY Mets he pulls out Kershaw in the 8th inning with the Dodgers winning. Everyone expected Roberts to bring in Jansen to finish the 8th inning and then go on to pitch the 9th.

However, instead of doing what everyone thinks is the logically choice, Dave Roberts brings in Adam Liberatore. Unfortunately Liberatore proved to be the wrong choice and he coughed up the go ahead run to give the NY Mets the lead going into the 9th inning. Every Dodger fan watching the game on TV could see the angry and disbelief on Clayton Kershaw face.

The only thing that kept this from totally getting out of control was the fact that the Dodgers pulled out a miracle and took back the lead in the top of the 9th, giving Jansen the opportunity to do what he does best and get the save in the bottom of the 9th.

As the Dodgers closed out May, the Dodgers were just a tad over 500. The Dodgers rivals, the Giants are in first place, and as to the Dodgers, well they are in a distant second, 5 games out of first.

The Dodgers were even swept by the Florida Marlins who are also just a tad over 500. The Dodgers also lost three out of four games to the LA Angels, which are around 440.

The Dodgers need more than Kershaw, it’s unfair to expect him to carry the team to the playoffs. The Dodgers fans need to see more. It’s unfair to expect them to go to game after game, pay what they pay just to see a so-so game instead of a good Dodger game.

Sports Blog – May 2016

sports May 2016

Let talk sports for May

Sports May 2016, as I tried gathering my thoughts as to what my main topic would be for this month’s sports blog, I did a little remising of my past blogs for the month of May. I did one a few years ago on Little league baseball, or how about the one on the fall of the LA Lakers, which to this day they have not yet recovered and the rise of the LA Clippers. The Clippers have made the playoffs again this year and are heavily favored.

I could write a whole blog on the many upsets that occurred during this year’s ‘March Madness. What a tournament that was. My bracket was so destroyed by the 3rd round, I just had to give up and throw in the towel, as did many of my friends and family members. I even had the nerve to pick Kansas winning the whole thing, like I said, ‘bracket destroyed’!

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/projects/cp/sports/2016-ncaa-tournament
I was even leaning toward doing this month’s blog on Baseball and my two favorite teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but already did that last month. Besides we are only a month into the season, plenty of months leave to tackle that topic again.

However, I do have a major beef, with all the money the Dodgers have spend on pitchers and the Dodgers have a ton of them to choose from on their roster, why do they keep using the same ineffective relieve pitchers, day after day after day! I know it’s still early in the season and maybe they are hoping for some improvement, but most fans, including me would rather lose a game with a new relieve pitcher than keep losing with the same ones over and over again!

So, I guess I am left with either the NBA playoffs or the NHL playoffs, or better yet Kobe Bryant.

It’s hard to believe that Kobe will not be back next year and it’s unfortunate that the LA Lakers are still ‘bottom feeding’ in the rankings for 2016. I think this makes either the third or fourth year in a row that they didn’t even make the playoffs, let alone come in dead last.

Kobe Bryant Retires Tonight

And even through this was Kobe last year as a Laker, the Lakers did not make the playoffs, however, he did manage to go out in style, ‘Kobe style’ that is. His last game as a LA Laker, he scored a record high of 60 points. That in its self was totally amazing!

Remember Peyton Manning, he hung up his cleats after he and the Denver Broncos win the ‘Super Bowl’ back in February of this year.

There was also Adam LaRoche, of the White Sox, who decided to throw in the towel when he could no longer bring his son to work and hang out in the dugout.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/no-one-is-wrong-about-adam-laroche/
However, the retirement of Vin Scully is the one that personally I will feel the most. I have been a Dodger fan for many, many years and one of the reasons I am a true blue fan is the voice of the Dodgers, Scully! It didn’t seem to hurt as much somehow that the Dodgers lost, he always had a way of letting the fans know that it was only a game, and there is always another game right around the corner.

http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Dodgers-Scully-says-he-s-retiring-after-2016-6473854.php
I also loved the baseball stories and yet never missed a pitch or a hit. Besides all the baseball stories came the personal ones, not about him, but about our players, making them just a tad more human to us, the fans. He had a way of making it look and sound so easy and yet personally I don’t think there is anyone that does it better.

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/146129476/vin-scully-announces-2016-will-be-last-season
I am looking forward to continue watching Dodger baseball as the season continues, even though I am definitely not looking forward to this being Scully’s last season as the one and only Dodger announcer.

http://www.si.com/more-sports/2016/04/17/media-circus-vin-scully-world-series-nba-finale-ratings

One last comment regarding Vin Scully, there is a push for Vin to one of the baseball announcers for the 2016 World Series game. This would be a great way for Scully to end his career. Hopefully he will get enough support from MLB to make this happen.
